Hi, i’m Dani.
I like reading and reviewing books.
I grew up with a flashlight under my pillow so I could sneakily read past bedtime (let’s be honest though, I wasn’t being sneaky at all. My parents knew the whole time). Years later, I now have a Kindle and I still read past my bedtime (I just don’t need that heavy flashlight anymore).
I’ve been a reader for as long as I can remember. It started with a Goosebumps book back in my elementary school classroom library. A year later, Harry Potter was released and I’ve been hooked on reading ever since.
I love the feeling of getting lost inside a good book. From Fantasy to Sci-Fi to Horror, I’ll read anything that I can fall headlong into.
That said, I also consider myself to be a pretty average reader. Some months I can devour 8+ books. Sometimes I have reading slumps. Sometimes I’m only in the mood for romance or fantasy and sometimes I can’t get enough of horror .
Basically what I’m trying to say is that books have been a huge presence in my life for almost over 30 years. I wanted a place to share my love of reading with other readers and thus Mish-Mashed Magic was created!
Fun Facts
I read primarily on Kindle but I love collecting physical copies of my favorite reads.
I frequently fall prey to pretty or intriguing covers (this doesn’t always work out in my favor).
My top three favorite series are the Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien, the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling, and the Winternight trilogy by Katherine Arden.
Some of my other favorite books include The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, Contact by Carl Sagan, Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card, The Eight by Katherine Neville, Station Eleven/Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel, and Bunny by Mona Award. (See the whole list here)
I’ll read anything by Emily St. John Mandel, Andy Weir, Naomi Novik, Brandon Sanderson, Mona Award and R.F Kuang.
I love a good pandemic/dystopian novel or anything with a fun or intriguing magic system.
I am a huge fan of libraries and mostly borrow the books I read via Libby (Overdrive).
I may or may not secretly be holding out hope that Patrick Rothfuss will one day release “The Doors of Stone".
