Normally it’s the cover that pulls me in but this time was a little different - it was the title that piqued my interest this time!
This book follows a young woman nicknamed Piglet, during the days that lead up to her wedding. Everything is seemingly perfect - she has just moved into a beautiful new home with her fiance and she is on the cusp of getting married. Yet, despite how perfect everything seems to be going for her, there is an underlying tension. And as the wedding quickly approaches, Piglets life begins to unravel.
I really enjoyed this book! Piglet is a fascinating character - she has everything a girl could possibly want. A stable job. An adoring fiance. A beautiful home. An upcoming wedding. And yet, something is amiss. This book does a great job of building an undercurrent tension through food and eating disorders - something I realize may not be suited for all readers. If you do have an eating disorder or struggle with food, I would caution you to perhaps skip this one.
As Piglet’s life and relationships slowly unravel, so does her restraint with food. It was both horrifying and fascinating to read this story. Like that cliche slow-moving-trainwreck, I was captivated and couldn’t look away. I’m struggling to put this to words because in many ways it was such an odd but relatable book.
(As a side note, I’m a huge fan of food descriptions in books and this book really excels at that. I could smell and taste many of the meals mentioned in the book and I get an odd sort of pleasure from it. There were moments where I wish I could have climbed into the book just to eat whatever was being cooked!)
Overall, if you have any struggles with food or eating orders, I would steer clear. But if you love descriptive food, and messy main characters, definitely look this one up!
