I have a love-hate relationship with Riley Sager novels. I know whenever Sager releases a new story that I’m either going to fly through it or absolutely despise it (but still fly through it, because these books are so darned readable).

This book is about Kit, a home nursing aide whose reputation has been recently been tarnished by an incident that left the last patient in her care dead. Her employer begrudgingly allows her to stay employed as the home nurse to one Lenora Hope - a town legend for having allegedly killed her whole family one horrific night.

There’s something so basic, almost cookie-cutter like about Sager’s novels but at the same time there’s always some semi-unexpected thing that happens that end up throwing me off. It’s the same every time, a strange mesh of predictable and unpredictable - just enough to keep you on your toes and flipping pages.

This book is more of the same. It’s not ground-breaking or ultra shocking like Gone Girl, but it’s entertaining and mildly atmospheric all the same.

If you’re a Riley Sager fan, this is probably one of my higher ranking ones of his books. And if you’ve never read one of Sager’s books, this is as good a place as any to start. Recommended.
