All thoughts and opinions are my own.
When I first saw the cover for this book, I knew I had to read it because of the green witch-y vibes. Thankfully, this book ended up being everything I’d hoped it would be. It was the cover that initially drew me in but I stayed for the witchy lineage story.
This book follows three women - In 1619 is Altha, preparing to undergo trial for the sin of witchcraft after a cattle farmer winds up dead; In 1942 is Violet, motherless and oppressed by her over-bearing and traditional father; In 2019 is Kate, fearful and planning her escape from an abusive relationship. Three young women facing horrible adversity that each must fight to overcome.
I really adored this book. I loved how the book was structured, alternating between timelines as each of these young women dealt with the struggles laid before them. I enjoyed each perspective equally, and by alternating timelines the book never felt stagnant.
I also really enjoyed the way Hart began weaving the timelines together. Despite the hardships, this book felt like a cozy read - a lovely story of women stepping into their own power to overcome adversity.
