After reading and loving Long Bright River by Liz Moore, I was excited to learn she was soon coming out with a new book. I had high hopes for this one and Moore did not disappoint one bit.
Years ago, a little boy vanishes in the woods around his family’s mansion in the woods, never to be seen again. Years later, his sister vanishes at a Summer Camp run by the same family. Told through two timelines and multiple perspectives, Moore unravels the mysteries surround the Van Laar family as they once again scramble to figure out what happened to Barbara Van Laar. Meanwhile, an escaped convict roams through the woods, heading back to the Van Laar estate.
I was so pleased to discover that I enjoyed this book just as much as Moore’s other book. The multiple perspectives and timelines kept the pace flowing smoothly and I found all the characters to be really interesting to read from (i.e. I enjoyed all the perspectives in equal measure). I really enjoyed how the truth was slowly unraveled and the ending felt satisfying (though I think there will be plenty that disagree). Overall this was a solid mystery/thriller novel and I look forward to what Moore comes out with next.
